Isn't it nice to be able to sleep in on a Sunday instead of going to a 2 hour meeting listening to some nonsense?

Did you meet any con artist types there?
by LongHairGal init seemed to me that there were a number of con artist types of personalities i came across during my years there.
i am not referring to people who were actually doing anything illegal.
what i am referring to are people who were very adept at getting things out of other people.

There were several in my old congregation that were involved with insurance scams. They would take money from people in the congregation who wished to purchase life insurance. Then these poor people would find out that they actually were not insured, even though they were paying the premiums.
The "Brother" who was involved in this actually was convicted and went to jail for some time.
There were also some in our congregation that were involved in several pyramid schemes. One was with some company called A L. Williams or something like that. I was actually invited to participate in this. I went to one of the sales meetings and saw right through the nonsense. I couldn't believe that "Jehovah's People" were actually involved in something so dishonest. Silly me. -

Another vote for Mulan Rouge.
Also, I didn't like American Beauty. I was bored to tears. I can't understand why this was such a hit. -

Dubs telling people who they should and should not marry.
by LongHairGal ini know of several experiences of couples who got married against the unwanted advice of the busybodies at the hall.
and i am not talking about a sixteen year old girl marrying a seventeen year old boy either!
these were people way over 30. .

If I listened to them 23 years ago, I wouldn't have my Beautiful Wife or my Beautiful Kids. Just shows what the hell they know.
There was a Sister in my old congregation who listened to them. She was widowed at a fairly young age and was left to raise her two children alone. After her kids grew up, she met this gentleman who was not in the truth. They dated and he wanted to marry her. He even went to the meetings and started studying just so he could be with her. But he made it very clear that he wouldn't get baptized. The Elders put a stop to their dating, and they eventually broke up. Now, she's alone, bitter, and most of the time, drunk. -

What's the best way to FADE away from the JW's?
by JH inwhat do you think is the best way to fade away from the jw org, without being df'd and without being bothered by them?.
just stop going and not answer their calls?.
change congregation, and never show up?.

Before I moved away, I just stopped going to the meetings, didn't answer or return their calls, and didn't answer the door when the elders eventually came knocking.
But, then we moved away and I guess I'm just a distant memory of the few left in my old congregation. -

Interesting post. After leaving the witnesses, I started Saluting the flag at mostly patriotic events, like ball games. :)
But I do have a question. I was unaware that our friends across the pond don't salute their flag.
But, do the witnesses in the United Kingdom stand up and sing God Save the Queen? If not, were there ever any ramafications to that? Just curious.
